Northeast Director Appointed
In accordance with RNABC's Constitution and Bylaws, the Board of Directors has appointed Barbara Crook, a staff nurse at Mackenzie and District Hospital, to fill the vacancy of director for District F - Northeast. The vacancy was created following the resignation of Kelly Dillon-Hunt from the Board. Crook has been a voting delegate at the last five RNABC Annual Meetings and has served as president of the Misinchinka Chapter since 2001. Her term on the Board ends August 31, 2004.
New Public Representatives
The Minister of Health Planning has appointed two new public representatives to the RNABC Board of Directors. Each is appointed for a term ending August 31, 2004.
Michael Chan of Richmond is President of Allied Hotel Properties, Inc., a company involved in the ownership and management of hotels. He is a chartered accountant and a part-time instructor of hospitality industry financial accounting for Imperial Hotel Management College.
David Sargent is the Principal at S.I. Consulting Services Inc. He is the former Director of Policy Review for the B.C. Agricultural Land Reserve and the former Director of Community Economic and Small Business Development for the Ministry of Economic Development. He has served on the Victoria Addiction Treatment and Research Society and was treasurer of the Greater Victoria Social Planning Council. He is a member of the Economic Development Association of B.C., the International Health Economics Association, the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and the Canadian Evaluation Society.
Election Candidates' Code of Conduct
Members seeking election to the RNABC Board of Directors will now have to sign a code of conduct. The code addresses conflict of interest for candidates, campaign donations and expenses as well as campaigning practices, such as contact with the media and use of RNABC and employer letterhead and logos. To make the nomination valid, the code, which is included in the nominations package, must be signed by the candidate five business days after the candidate has been informed his or her name has been approved for inclusion on the RNABC Ticket of Nominations.
Award forRNABC Web site
The RNABC Web site has been awarded second prize in the annual Hygeia Awards, sponsored by the Health Care Public Relations Association. Judges looked for ease of use, effective/appropriate application of graphics, originality, and quality of content. The contest included health care Web sites from across Canada.
CNA Resolutions
Two resolutions from RNABC were accepted by the Canadian Nurses Association Board of Directors in June. One resolution calls on CNA to lobby the Canadian government to establish a federal student loan forgiveness program. The other calls on CNA to identify five key recommendations from the final report of the Canadian Nursing Advisory Committee and develop a focussed action plan to lobby the federal government to address these priority recommendations with funds and other action.
