UMB Bank (Nasdaq:UMBF) announced today a "financial first" in most markets -- an introductory rate of 0 percent Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for 90 days on a home equity line of credit.(a)

After the introductory period, the rate will only go up to 5 percent APR. The campaign begins this Monday, April 5.

"This is an extremely competitive rate and very few, if any, banks are offering a 0 percent introductory rate," said Peter deSilva, president and chief operating officer of UMB Financial Corporation. "Our plan is designed to help individuals who want and need to take advantage of home equity in the most affordable way possible."

UMB's UltraEquity Line of Credit has no annual fees or closing costs and the rate is offered on new lines of credit through June 30, 2004. The home equity line of credit allows for major purchases such as an automobile, home improvements or education, but at a more manageable rate than other financing options. In most cases, the interest paid is tax deductible. UMB recommends contacting a tax advisor to evaluate possible tax deductions.
