Take advantage of the FTC Act and order a report:
* Go online at www.annualcreditreport.com
* Call 877-322-8228
* Mail a standardized form to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
* The three nationwide consumer reporting agencies --
Equifax, Experian and Trans Union -- must provide a free copy of consumers' credit reports once every 12 months.
Beware of and report other credit solicitations:
* The three agencies have set up one central Web site www.annualcreditreport.com, which is the only authorized online source for consumers to access their credit reports. Avoid similar- sounding Web sites. If you get an email or see a pop-up ad claiming its from that Web site or the three agencies, don't reply or click on any link in the message. It's probably a scam.
* Forward any email that claims to be from www.annualcreditreport.com or any of the three agencies to the FTC's database of deceptive spam at spam@uce.gov.
