Des Moines' Home Loan Bank announces new board

Michael Finley, Kevin Pietrini and Sam Bryan Cook have been elected to their first terms as directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, while current board member, Randy Newnian, was re-elected to his third consecutive term. Newman currently serves the bank's board as chairman. Each new director will serve a three-year term beginning Jan. 1.


Finley, president of Janesville State Bank in Janesville, Minn., began his career as an examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis. He began work at the Janesville bank in 1982 and became its president in 1995. Finley also serves the boards of directors for the Independent Community Bankers of Minnesota and the Minnesota Bankers Association's Political Action Committee.

Pietrini is president, chairman and CEO of Queen City Federal Savings Bank, Virginia, Minn. He also is president, chairman and CEO of the bank's holding company, Queen City Federal Bancorp. Pietrini, who joined the bank in 1978, serves on the board of directors for America's Community Bankers and the Minnesota League of Savings & Community Bankers.

Cook is chairman and CEO of First National Bank of St. Louis, Mo., a position he's held for 15 years. Cook also is chairman of Guaranty Trust Company, St. Louis, and president and CEO of Central Bancompany in Jefferson City, Mo. The community-minded banker also serves on the boards of directors for the Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts of America.

Newman, chairman and CEO of Alerus Financial, Grand Forks, N.B., has been with that organization since 1981 when it was called First National Bank North Dakota. He was named president and CFO in 1987, and chairman and CEO in 1997. Newman currently serves as chairman of the Greater Grand Forks Chamber Business/Government Alliance and the University of North Dakota Center for Innovation. Newman was first elected to the Des Moines FHL Bank's board in 1999.

* Robert Fricke, president and CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bank of Ashland, Neb., was elected to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Fricke will serve a threeyear term as a Class A director beginning Jan. 1.

* Kevin Howk has been promoted to branch president at Crown Bank, Edina, Minn. Howk, who has 14 years of experience in banking, was previously Crown Bank's senior lending officer. Howk formerly worked at BankWindsor in Minneapolis and was one of the founding employees of Crown Bank when it was established in 2000. He has a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.

Mark Lucke joins Crown Bank as vice president of commercial lending; he will work at the bank's downtown Minneapolis branch. Lucke formerly worked for U.S. Bank. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration/accounting from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.

* Matthew Garst has joined Peoples National Bank, Council Bluffs, Iowa, as assistant vice president of commercial lending. Garst has more than four years experience in commercial lending in southwest Iowa. He has a bachelor's degree in agri-business from Iowa State University, Ames.

* Kyle Thompson has been hired by Union State Bank of Winterset, Iowa, to manage its new loan production office in West Des Moines. Thompson joins the bank from U.S. Bank, where he was a vice president of credit risk assessment in Des Moines. Prior to that, he worked for U.S. Bank in Ottumwa, Iowa. He has more than seven years of industry experience. Thompson is a graduate of Simpson Collage and the H.L. McLaughlin Masters of Business Administration program with St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa.

* Michael Losenegger has been promoted to chief operating officer of First Business Bank, Madison, Wis. Losenegger previously was senior vice president of the bank. He has a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a master's degree in management from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Also at the bank, Benjamin Becker was hired as a commercial banking officer. Becker comes to First Business Bank with more than seven years of industry and management experience. He has a master's degree in integrated management from the DeVos Graduate School of Management, Midland, Mich.

* Debra Lampshire has joined the interior design staff at Kirk Gross Company, Waterloo, Iowa. She brings more than 19 years of experience. Lampshire will design interior packages for Kirk Gross' turnkey financial institution projects. Lampshire worked for The Designers in Lincoln, Neb. Some of her project management experience has been with security First Bank, Norwest Bank, and NBC Bank (all of Lincoln), and United Nebraska Bank in Grand Island, Neb. Lampshire has a bachelor of science degree in home economics/interior design from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

* Amanda Daeges joins the Minnesota Bankers Association as associate counsel. Daeges will assist the association's members with legal and compliance inquiries and will contribute to the MBA Legal Compliance BuIletin. Daeges has a degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, and a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minn.

* Gregory Taylor joins the American Bankers Association as associate general counsel. Taylor formerly worked at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as enforcement counsel. Taylor is a graduate of the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law, Washington, D.C. He received an undergraduate degree from William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va.
