The bride-to-be is a graduate of Olathe East High School. She is a student at Washburn University majoring in human services and is employed by the U.S. Coast Guard in Topeka in a student position.

The future groom is a graduate of Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Washburn University and is an enlisted member of the U.S. Coast Guard in Topeka.

They are planning a July 13, 2002, wedding at Lakeside Baptist Church in Silver Lake.
