Commercial International Bank Continues to Outperform
Stronger earnings growth and enhanced corporate governance
Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt S. A.E. is one of the country's largest and most profitable private sector banks. CIB's main activities encompass a broad range of corporate, investment and retail banking services. The bank's customer base includes 294,000 customers, comprising 600 of Egypt's largest corporate borrowers and more than 124,000 retail borrowers and credit card customers.
CIB has received a multitude of international accolades. Euromoney voted it Egypt's "liest Bank" For 11 consecutive years, and it was awarded the same title in Global Finance magazine for the past seven years. For the past three years, Global Finance also voted it "Best Forex Services Provider". CIB is consistently the bestrated bank in Egypt by leading credit agencies, which systematically emphasize that its rating is capped only bv the sovereign ceiling.
CIB offers one of the widest product portfolios in the Egyptian market. Some products and services such as life insurance and contractual savings schemes are offered through subsidiaries like Commercial International Life Insurance; securities brokerage is offered through Commercial International Brokerage Company; car finance through CONTACT Car Trading Company, and CorpLeasc tor Financial Leasing to its affiliates. The bank is Egypt's first financial institution to issue an IPO and GDRs in 1993 and 1995 respectively. Since January 2002, it has outperformed the MSCI-Egypt Financial Index and is expected to continue to outperform based on stronger earnings growth and enhanced corporate governance and disclosure.
Despite a challenging operating environment, 2003 was a record year for CJ 13 in many respects. Bottom line was at a peak of EGF 413 million, while both total assets and loan portfolios were also at record levels, EGP 24.2 billion and EGP 13.3 billion respectively. Tier 1 capital was at a safe 11.59%, marking the continuation of the bank's conservative management approach.
